In the past week and a half, I’ve seen New York light up from the top of the Rockefellar Center, crossed an ocean, watched the sunrise over the coast of France, checked out the Eiffel Tower and London from the sky, sipped wine in the Paris airport, partied in the Edinburgh Castle, walked through a palace, ridden through a fake distillery in a whiskey barrel, explored an underground city, chased some bagpipes, spotted some unicorns, hung out with my family, flown over Iceland and Greenland, eaten Bolton’s spicy chicken and spent the better part of a day hunting down pumpkin ale around Nashville.

Now I’m just appreciating home before I turn around and leave it again. Next up: Sufjan and sibling time.

Above on the left is Apache Relay, who are responsible for this song and for that time I was crammed into someone’s bedroom with Mumford & Sons and Jake Gyllenhaal. On the right is Paper Route, who have been around forever and reminded me that incredible shows happen here every night and I need to go see more of them.

And well, that’s a wrap. I packed a ton of live music into this weekend and it’s been pretty amazing from start to finish. Next Big Nashville/SoundLand is one of those occasions when I get all sentimental and proud of my city and the amount of talent that’s here. And then I get indignant about the rest of the world not giving Nashville enough credit, until I realize that I actually really enjoy living in one of the best kept secrets in America.

These guys in the Public Square have been upgraded to my favorite public art installation in Nashville because I forgot how much fun they are. Little known fact: There are cranks at the base of each statue that you can use to turn them a full 360 degrees.

Whatiseenashville replied to your photo: how often do you hang out at HG Hill Park?

I used to hang out there quite a bit when I worked close by. There’s a tunnel that connects the old HG Hill park to the Nashville West addition and it was the perfect lunch break hiding place. Highly recommended.

About

Sometimes I write things on Nashvillest.com and other times I work a real job that involves lots of airports, hotels, spreadsheets and the occasional pantsuit. Avid roadtripper, lover of redbud trees and firm believer in taking the scenic route. These are a few of my favorite things.

Ask me anything.
