One Week Later

It’s crazy to think that a week ago today the entire city was hunkered down while Nashville flooded and flooded, and then flooded some more. Some of us already had water pouring into our houses or our friends’ houses, much of the damage was fresh and none of us really knew what to do with it all.

In one week’s time, my brain has become this bizarre archive of emergency phone numbers, water treatment facility statuses, debris disposal requirements, road closures, disaster relief organizations, FEMA protocol, donation drop-off sites, and about a million other flood-related things. Being at the epicenter of a large-scale natural disaster is not something I really considered to be a possibility in my life, ever. So to think that a week and a day ago, my biggest concern was just getting through my Hulu queue before the next week’s shows is just… bizarre. You really can’t count on tomorrow.

Sometimes your foundation shakes in a way that you know will change your life. I can probably count those moments in my own life on one hand, and this is one of them.

PS: On April 29th, I said that I wanted to be able to see the world like this, and now I do.

About

Sometimes I write things on Nashvillest.com and other times I work a real job that involves lots of airports, hotels, spreadsheets and the occasional pantsuit. Avid roadtripper, lover of redbud trees and firm believer in taking the scenic route. These are a few of my favorite things.

Ask me anything.
