Nashville Knucklehead: Tennessee Waltz
I’m sitting at home with my little girl as the Nashville Symphony is giving a free concert downtown. I don’t think it was intended to be free, but the Symphony Hall flooded, so they’re playing in the downtown square.
This came across my Twitter just now: “Symphony just played a kick ass version of tennessee waltz and a lot of folks crying.”
I damn near lost it just reading that. The Tennessee Waltz, besides being a beautiful song, obviously has taken on a new meaning to folks around here right now. People are on edge. Emotions are right up to the back of the throat.
It’s not easy thinking about my friends who lost everything. But we’ll do what we have to get everyone back on their feet.
I remember the night
and the Tennessee Waltz
‘cause I know just how much I have lost.
Yes, I lost my little darlin’
the night they were playing
that beautiful Tennessee Waltz
