Merry belated Christmas, y’all.
I’ve been ignoring the internet for a few days and it’s been nice. I drove home to Virginia for the first time in a long time because I have a car that works and stopped in Asheville to break up the drive and visit family. This meant that I had to take the crazy roundabout detour around the I-40 rockslide that wound me through snowy mountains on S-shaped roads for 60+ miles, complete ice patches and fallen trees I had to drive around. The downside is that it was pretty precarious, but the upside is that between the snow and the mountain towns I went through, I felt like I was driving through a Norman Rockwell painting.
About 3/4 of the way through the detour, I saw a driveway that split off a few yards from the road in a small loop called Lookout Loop. When I pulled off, there was a bear-shaped sign that said “Welcome, enjoy the view.” There was a box attached to the sign with index cards and a Bic pen with instructions to leave your name and and where you’re from because the property owner also liked to know who was stopping by, so I left a note with my name and city and thanked him for letting people stop there. The owner’s house was a little further down the mountain, and I guess he just opened up the spot to give people something to look at.

Sometimes I write things on Nashvillest.com and other times I work a real job that involves lots of airports, hotels, spreadsheets and the occasional pantsuit. Avid roadtripper, lover of redbud trees and firm believer in taking the scenic route. These are a few of my favorite things.
