17/365. Holiday! I didn’t have any real plans for today, so I just sort of meandered from one place to another. First, I tried to go to the Martin Luther King, Jr. Day parade on Jefferson Street. I never have much of a reason to venture into North Nashville and the Jefferson Street corridor, but it’s so rich in history and culture that I figured I’d check it out since I had the day off. I’ve always been curious about what that celebration is like, and honestly it was pretty small. No one was really watching, either.
So then I drove from North Nashville to South Nashville to try to find some International Food Mart I’d read about so I could get the ingredients to make my favorite Ethiopian dish. I was just going to go to Gojo and order takeout like I usually do, but I figured I had the day to devote to trying to cook it, so why not? It was a fun little market. Four different kinds of injera, enough lentils to be confusing, lots of weird meat… and anyway, I walked out of there with $8.10-worth of groceries which amounted to a lot of food. I think the dish turned out well, though I can’t really taste it because my nose is still stuffy.
I also picked up some paperwhite bulbs on sale at Home Depot to try and force in my living room. I’ve been wanting to do that for year, but I keep forgetting. That’s what’s in the picture. In about six weeks, with any luck, they should be beautiful. Bonus points to whoever can guess which DVD I’m watching over dinner! ;)

About

Sometimes I write things on Nashvillest.com and other times I work a real job that involves lots of airports, hotels, spreadsheets and the occasional pantsuit. Avid roadtripper, lover of redbud trees and firm believer in taking the scenic route. These are a few of my favorite things.

Ask me anything.
