Avett Brothers, Ryman Auditorium.
ETA: Ended up with ridiculously great seats for this show thanks to Morgan’s mad skills. It was a very different experience from the New Year’s Eve show in Asheville earlier this year due in part to the fact that I could actually see and also because it’s the Ryman. This was one of those Ryman shows where everyone stood up immediately, which I usually hate because I’m old and my back hurts (and get off my lawn, etc.) But at some point, I realized I was standing in one of the most iconic music venues in the country with 2,362 happy people clapping and slapping the wooden pews and stomping the wooden floor and basically sounding like they were going to bring the whole place crashing to the ground, and suddenly it went from annoying to magical. That place is alive, and it’s every bit as much a part of the show as the show itself. And the Avett Brothers fed into and off of that energy perfectly tonight, I think. Hooray for good music.
